Job Opportunity:

At Leonardo, we are seeking experienced software professionals to develop software for the M-Scan and Mark 0 radar systems deployed on the Eurofighter Typhoon Fighter Jet.

The Typhoon remains the primary frontline defense aircraft for the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain. As a result of significant customer demand for future technology enhancements, Leonardo is looking for software engineers to contribute to the Typhoon program.

We are looking for individuals interested in learning the programming language Ada, which is widely used in the defense and aerospace industry. We are committed to supporting candidates in their learning and development.

For this role, we are seeking candidates for both our established software community in our Edinburgh-based office and our brand-new Newcastle office with a startup feel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop high-quality and robust code, document work products, and maintain configuration management.
  • Deliver technical reports and documents, generate and present technical presentations to project stakeholders.
  • Follow project plans, identify key elements, and report progress to the software team lead and project management.
  • Collaborate with the software and systems team, as well as the rooflab integration team, to investigate and resolve complex system integration issues.

Requirements:

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to a new programming language, Ada.
  • Good industry experience and autonomy at a senior level.
  • Experience with the full software development lifecycle.
  • Desire to work within a small, multi-disciplined integrated project team.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with agile software development techniques, such as Scrum, and tooling like Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Gitlab.
  • Knowledge of Ada programming language.
  • Experience with Java, which can aid in learning Ada.
  • Experience with developing software for embedded systems.
  • Background in heavily regulated industries, such as defense, aerospace, automotive, or medical.
