Leeds City Council is seeking a skilled Rehabilitation Officer to join our Disability Services Team. As a key member of the team, you will work with individuals who are visually impaired, or dual sensory impaired, to promote independence and quality of life.

About the Role

As a Rehabilitation Officer, you will be responsible for assessing the needs of visually impaired adults, young people, and children. You will work with individuals to develop personalized rehabilitation plans, focusing on daily living skills, communication, and mobility. Your expertise will help individuals to achieve independence and participate fully in their communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct assessments of need for visually impaired individuals, taking into account the council's eligibility criteria.
  • Develop and implement rehabilitation plans, including daily living skills, communication, and mobility training.
  • Work with individuals to promote independence and quality of life, focusing on their strengths and abilities.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, including Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants, to ensure comprehensive support.
  • Supervise and mentor student Rehabilitation Officers on placement, providing guidance and support.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A relevant qualification in Rehabilitation Work, such as a BSc (Hons) in Rehabilitation Visual Impairment or a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care (Visual Impairment Rehabilitation).
  • Experience working with visually impaired individuals, with a focus on rehabilitation and independence.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals, families, and professionals.
  • Ability to design, implement, and evaluate rehabilitation plans, with a focus on promoting independence and quality of life.
