Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients through venepuncture as requested by clinicians and other appropriately authorised doctors and health professionals.

They will also be responsible for ensuring blood samples are collected in appropriate containers, labelled correctly, and prepared and dispatched to relevant laboratory sections in a timely and correct manner.

The ideal candidate will have good IT skills to be able to input data on systems and utilise email and Microsoft applications.

They will also be able to exercise sound judgement in relation to problem solving and identifying situations requiring further advice.

The role requires the ability to work closely with Medical, Nursing, and Laboratory staff to provide a rapid blood collection service, which is sensitive to service requirements on individual Wards, OPD or GP practices as appropriate.

The successful candidate will also be required to take part in a weekend and bank holiday rota to maintain phlebotomy services across the Trust.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have experience of working face to face with the general public including the handling of complaints.

They will also have good IT skills to be able to input data on systems and utilise email and Microsoft applications.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required for the role.
