Job Title: Principal Arboricultural Consultant

Essex County Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Arboricultural Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our Place Services team, you will be responsible for leading the provision of arboricultural services to clients across the UK.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality arboricultural services, including specialist planning advice, highway tree management, and large-scale arboricultural assessments and surveys.
  • Develop and review complex plans, policies, and guidance related to arboriculture.
  • Build and maintain high-level client relationships, securing feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Lead the development and delivery of promotional and learning material, training activities, and events to enhance the recognition and reputation of Place Services.
  • Identify and implement improvements to the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery.
Requirements:
  • Educated to RQF level 6 (Bachelor's degree) with substantial post-qualification experience or equivalent by experience.
  • Qualified Professional Tree Inspector with strong evidence of continuous professional development and membership of relevant professional bodies.
  • Authoritative technical and subject matter expert with comprehensive knowledge and experience of development management and planning policy, legislation, and enforcement standards and guidance.
  • Effective people management skills with experience of employee performance and development.
  • Strong understanding of wellbeing and H&S, with ability to identify and implement safe working practices for self and others.
  • Good understanding of commercial practices, with accomplished negotiation and communication skills and a track record of business development.
