Reporting to: Policy and Standards Team

SSEN Transmission has an opportunity for an Expert Civil Engineer - Design and Construction to join our Policy and Standards Team. As a critical component of our Asset Management and Operations Directorate, this team is responsible for ensuring the design and technical engineering guidance for all Transmission projects are suitable and in compliance with relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write, maintain, and own technical specifications for civil works associated with substations.
  • Represent Transmission at industry body events and attend conferences, participate in supplier meetings, and lead on introducing new technology for substation construction.
  • Perform approval of civil aspects with regard to standardised substation construction.
  • Provide technical guidance and advice to Project Engineering and Operations regarding civil capability.
  • Contribute to design reviews to verify project proposals are fit for purpose.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline and Chartered Engineer status.
  • Demonstrable experience in the design, specification, construction, operation, and maintenance of civil infrastructure, preferably in the energy sector.
  • Strong organisation and project management skills, as well as interpersonal skills.
