Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Dental Officer to join our team at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. As a Senior Dental Officer, you will play a key role in leading our clinically led organisation and ensuring the delivery of high-quality dental care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of dental professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.
  • Develop and implement clinical policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of safe and effective dental care.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care and outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the trust's dental strategy.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to junior dental staff.
Requirements
  • BDS or equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with the General Dental Council (GDC).
  • NHSE Performer List number.
  • Not subject to open or ongoing Performer Investigation.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Special Care Dentistry (desirable).
  • Five years post-graduate clinical activity.
  • Experience of and understanding of the challenges presented by special care patients.
  • Experience of clinical audit.
  • Experience dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Experience of working in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Competency in the treatment of patients using the techniques of conscious sedation.
  • Experience of treating patients under General Anaesthesia.
  • Experience in the delivery of domiciliary dental care.
  • Experience of mentoring or work as a Clinical Supervisor/Educational Supervisor.
  • Experience and competence in Special Care Dentistry.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Understanding of basic physiology and medical conditions that may cause complications in the delivery of dentistry.
  • Current commissioning guidelines in sedation, special care and paediatric dentistry.
  • Basic Life Support and the skills to lead a medical emergency.
  • Structure of local NHS services.
  • Legislative framework governing the delivery of oral health care in England.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical and restorative dentistry.
Personal Qualities
  • Understanding and empathy towards vulnerable groups.
  • High standard of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Current driving licence.
  • Compliance with NHS policy on smoking.
  • Ability to travel between sites in Cumbria.
