Job Title: Consultant Microbiologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Microbiologist to join our team at NHS Lothian. As a Consultant Microbiologist, you will play a key role in the delivery of infection consult services, antimicrobial stewardship, and contribute to Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT).

About the Role:

  • Deliver high-quality infection consult services to patients across Lothian.
  • Contribute to the development of antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical teams to optimize patient care.
  • Contribute to the development of teams comprising microbiologists, virologists, infectious diseases physicians, and infection prevention and control colleagues.

The Lothian Microbiology service includes five Scottish reference laboratories, dealing with Mycobacteria, E. coli O157, Bacterial Sexually-Transmitted Infections, Human Papilloma Virus, and Viral Haemorrhagic Fever, as well as Specialist Virology services.

Requirements:

  • CCT in Microbiology or Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.
  • Full GMC Registration and a license to practise.
  • Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register.
