Archive Collections Specialist

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Archival Management System, including ArchiveSearch, across Cambridge University libraries. This will involve working with colleagues in the Archive and Modern Manuscripts and Digital Initiatives departments, as well as the community of participating archives across Cambridge, to maintain the system and develop its use and application to meet the needs of stakeholders.
Key tasks will include acting as a first point of contact for system users, responding to inquiries and coordinating with Digital Initiatives colleagues to address issues and plan system maintenance. The Systems Archivist will also be responsible for liaising with the Cambridge archives community, supporting the Cambridge AMS User group, maintaining documentation and training for archivists, and developing the further implementation of the system to support collection management for CUL.
Additionally, the Systems Archivist will support the onboarding of new collections and users, undertake data analysis, and support data migration where appropriate. They will also liaise with colleagues in Digital Initiatives working on the Digital Preservation Project, including the Metadata Specialist, to develop the use of the AMS for managing digital archives.
RequirementsWe are looking for a qualified archivist or information professional with knowledge of archival collections and services, experience of using an archive management system, and working with metadata standards and production within an academic library, archive, museum, or related environment. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of relevant metadata standards and schema, advanced skills working with large quantities of textual data using a range of applications, and experience of data management and migration.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the principles of digital preservation and the importance of metadata in supporting the long-term accessibility and usability of digital archives. They will also be able to work effectively in a team environment, communicating complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders and providing excellent customer service to system users.
