Design Manager Job Description

Falcon Green Personnel is seeking a highly skilled Design Manager to join their team. As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the design process, ensuring that all designs meet regulatory, safety, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the design process, ensuring that all designs are aligned with project specifications and delivered on time.
  • Liaise between stakeholders, including the design team, client, and construction team, to facilitate communication and ensure all parties are informed of project progress and changes.
  • Ensure designs meet all regulatory, safety, and environmental standards, including reviewing design documents to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, local building codes, and company guidelines.
  • Identify potential design risks early in the project and implement mitigation strategies to avoid delays or budget overruns.
  • Work closely with the commercial and construction teams to align the design with the project's financial constraints, often through value engineering exercises to optimise cost-efficiency without compromising on quality.
  • Establish and maintain the design programme, ensuring that milestones are met to allow construction to proceed according to schedule.
  • Manage design changes during the construction phase, assessing the impact on time, cost, and quality, and ensuring that these changes are communicated to all relevant parties.
  • Implement quality control processes to ensure that design outputs are consistent with the original project intent and meet the required standards of workmanship.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of experience working as a Design Manager for Main Contractors.
  • Strong knowledge of building regulations, safety standards (such as CDM regulations), and sustainability practices (BREEAM, LEED).
  • Proven experience managing design teams, delivering projects on time and within budget, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Residential project experience is essential.
