We are seeking an exceptional individual to fill the position of Assistant Curator/Assistant Lecturer in Classical Archaeology. This is a unique opportunity for a career development opportunity in curatorship and/or university teaching. The successful candidate will divide their time equally between the Department of Antiquities in the Ashmolean Museum and St John's College, collaborating with other Ashmolean, GLAM, and College staff as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop the key skills of modern curatorship, including working on permanent displays, temporary exhibitions, and responding to public enquiries.
- Deliver undergraduate teaching in Classical Archaeology, supervised and mentored by staff of the Ashmolean and St John's College.
- Develop and maintain own learning objectives throughout the appointment.
About You
We are looking for a candidate with a postgraduate degree in Classical Archaeology or a related field. The ideal candidate will have experience of work (including volunteering) in a museum or similar environment and/or experience of archaeological fieldwork, as well as a sound understanding of issues surrounding collections care, conservation, and security. Experience of university or museum outreach/public engagement is desirable.
