Control Systems Engineer

At Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery, we are seeking an experienced Control Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our integrated vision, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our world-class refinery. Located in North Lincolnshire, our refinery is a world-class supplier of quality fuels, with a capacity to process up to 5.4 million tonnes of crude oil per year. We are committed to decarbonising and reducing our CO2 emissions, and we are looking for talented individuals who can support our journey towards becoming a leading, low-carbon refinery.
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of Honeywell DCS systems, including migration projects, hardware design, and network infrastructure. They will also have strong technical skills in system commissioning, start-up, and cybersecurity, as well as the ability to lead system improvements, troubleshoot issues, and manage critical projects.
Key Responsibilities:
System Maintenance:
- Lead both preventative and reactive maintenance on Honeywell DCS systems, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance.
- Conduct maintenance in compliance with site standards and industry regulations, ensuring system integrity and safety.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of site-wide control and safety systems, including networking infrastructure.
- Perform daily diagnostic checks and document the status of the control system, identifying and addressing any issues through Root Cause Analysis (RCA) as needed.
- Ensure technical records, such as CMMS, are maintained and up to date, and backup recovery procedures are in place.
- Lead the development of preventive and predictive maintenance programs to ensure system longevity and reliability.
- Report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for systems and departments.
- Lead and support Honeywell TPS to EPKS migration projects, ensuring smooth transitions with minimal disruption to operations.
- Oversee commissioning and start-up activities for new and upgraded systems, ensuring they meet design and performance specifications.
- Design and configure Honeywell EPKS hardware and develop applications tailored to process control requirements.
- Manage EPKS application development for control and safety strategies.
- Configure, commission, and maintain HMI Web displays, ensuring user-friendly interfaces and efficient operator interactions.
- Use GUS Display Builder for design and integration of advanced graphical user interfaces.
- Design and implement industrial networking solutions, ensuring robust and secure communications for control and safety systems.
- Maintain and develop network architectures in line with best practices to optimise performance and security.
- Maintain and enhance cybersecurity protocols for industrial control systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and protecting against potential threats.
- Develop long-term plans for system reliability and operational improvement through maintenance, capital projects, and technological advancements.
- Lead initiatives to enhance the reliability, availability, and cost-efficiency of control systems.
- Collaborate with process engineers to optimise control strategies and unit safety limits, designing and implementing control software and providing operator training.
- Support plant optimisation efforts, valorisation, and safety improvements.
- Manage capital expenditure (Capex) projects from concept to completion, ensuring alignment with budget, scope, and timelines.
- Lead the development of control and safety applications in accordance with IEC61508 and IEC61511 standards.
- Support Management of Change (MOC), Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) validations for control and safety systems.
- Provide technical support to teams and contractors, troubleshooting and resolving system issues.
- Assist with regulatory and corporate audits, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Provide out-of-hours technical support for unforeseen incidents affecting control and safety systems.
- Play an active role in managing plant turnarounds, including scope preparation, scheduling, and execution for control system work.
- Promote and ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environment, Quality, and Integrity (HSEQI) protocols.
- Conduct incident reporting, risk assessments, and audits to maintain high safety standards.
- Extensive knowledge of Honeywell DCS (Experion) and experience with TPS to EPKS migration projects.
- Strong experience in DCS commissioning and start-up activities.
- Proven experience in EPKS hardware design and EPKS application development.
- Demonstrated knowledge in industrial networking and network design.
- Experience with HMI Web display design, configuration, and commissioning.
- Proficiency in GUS Display Builder.
- Knowledge of Windows Server configuration, virtualisation, and EBR (Electronic Batch Records).
