Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Finance to join our team at Powys County Council. As a key member of our senior management team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the financial direction of the organization and ensuring the effective management of our finances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and direct a finance function that is fully resourced with a valued team of experts.
  • Drive the promotion and delivery of good financial management across the organization, ensuring public money is safeguarded at all times and used appropriately, economically, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Oversee the continued progression of our transformation agenda, including the introduction of a new financial system in April 2026.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies that support the council's medium-term financial plan.
  • Provide clear, strategic financial advice to senior management and councillors.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • Excellent financial management and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, councillors, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to make tough decisions and navigate complex financial challenges.
  • Knowledge of financial systems and processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
