Academic / Education Support Worker

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Academic Support Worker to join our team at Havering Education Services. As a Learning Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting children's social and emotional development, promoting positive relationships and fostering a nurturing environment.

About the Role

This is a permanent position working 167 hours per week over 38 weeks of the year, with annual holidays included. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering individualised programs of support to children, promoting their emotional literacy, self-esteem, and resilience.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Support children in developing emotional regulation skills, modelling appropriate interactions, and de-briefing when needed.
  2. BUILD children's confidence and self-esteem through supportive relationships and activities.
  3. Implement psychological concepts learned during ELSA training/Thrive and supervision to support children's needs.
  4. Plan and deliver engaging programs of support to small groups, promoting resilience and life skills.
  5. Liaise with teachers and other support staff to share knowledge and ideas on children's progress.
  6. Communicate effectively with parents/carers and external agencies as required by school policy.
Requirements
  • A warm personality, calm under pressure, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with children and adults.
  • Experience with ELSA or Thrive training, or willingness to undergo training.
Salary Information

The estimated salary for this role is £32,000 - £40,000 per annum, based on national averages for similar positions in the UK.
