The Applications Team

The Applications team within R&D plays a critical role in supporting Lubrizol through the invention and synthesis of new specialty chemicals and technical support of existing products. We are seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician to join our team who will utilize their technical expertise to evaluate additives in coatings, inks, and composites applications and interpret and analyze analytical and performance data.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design and undertake evaluation of different additive technologies in coatings and composites to meet defined business needs.
  2. Decide how projects should proceed using logic, experience, and creativity to meet agreed timelines.
  3. Have the opportunity to propose and develop your own ideas.
  4. May be assigned as a Technical Leader for projects.
  5. Document, interpret, and communicate results to colleagues and internal project sponsors.
  6. Present scientific data at internal/external meetings.
  7. Input into other areas of importance such as Sustainability and outreach activities.
  8. Follow safe laboratory practices.

Requirements

  • Science A Levels, BTEC, or equivalent laboratory experience in chemistry.
  • Ability to apply scientific understanding to experiment planning.
  • Good communication, team working, and interpersonal skills, to be successful in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Good project management skills, with experience of managing multiple projects to deadlines.
  • Good IT skills (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Chemdraw, or equivalent).

Preferred Experience

  • Ability to operate equipment for milling, mixing, or compounding.
  • Ability to make rheological measurements of solutions or pastes.
  • Ability to formulate and coat films onto substrates.
  • Ability to make color measurements and interpret results.
  • Ability to conduct mechanical tests to evaluate new polymer-composite materials.
