Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer – Metrology to join our team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our calibration department, you will be responsible for performing and supervising high-level calibration and repair of Mechanical test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and supervise calibration and repair of TMDE, including resource management and calibration workload signoff
  • Develop and review calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets
  • Participate in UKAS (ISO 17025) audits and achieve UKAS signatory status
  • Deliver on-the-job training and experiential learning to apprentices and team members
  • Communicate with technical stakeholders and consult on new measurement technologies

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Extensive experience in a precision Mechanical metrology laboratory environment
  • Understanding of quality systems and standards (ISO 17025 / ISO 9001)
  • Relevant academic qualification (STEM Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent)

Desirable:

  • Existing UKAS signatory status for Mechanical Calibrations (Pressure, Mass, Torque, Force)
  • Experience in creating measurement uncertainty budgets to ISO 17025 level
  • Experience in using automation software (Fluke Metcal, Met/Track, Met/Teams, Labview)

About the Team:

The calibration department supports 30,000 pieces of equipment per year, ranging from traditional analogue equipment to state-of-the-art digital systems. We focus on the calibration of TMDE capable of making pressure, mass, torque, and force measurements. Our team offers relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
