Academy Site Maintenance Professional

GREAT YARMOUTH CHARTER ACADEMY is seeking a reliable and effective caretaker. In accordance with academy practices and procedures, the successful candidate will ensure that the premises and contents are properly maintained, secured, and ready for use.
The caretaker has 24-hour responsibility for the security of the academy premises. The working hours will be determined by the needs of the academy, with agreement from the principal. Key holder responsibilities extend beyond regular working hours to cater for emergencies at any time, day or night. The role involves supporting all aspects of the site and includes maintaining the school grounds, locking the site, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. This position comes with a 52-week contract and the flexibility of booking annual leave in school holidays.

The main responsibilities of this role include:
- Ensuring the security of the premises and its contents, including operating fire and burglar alarms, and undertaking key holder responsibilities such as locking/unlocking entrances, checking and securing windows, and internal doors, activating and switching off alarm systems, etc.
- Being available to answer emergencies outside of regular working hours and pre-planned lettings.
- Ensuring all utility-related systems, such as heating, lighting, plumbing, and power, are functioning properly.
- Fully aware of and comply with all departmental instructions and procedures relating to health and safety at work and recognize the responsibilities required under the Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974.
The ideal candidate should possess:
- A Category D1 driver's license would be desirable.
- Diy skills to undertake minor repairs and maintenance of the site.
- The ability to perform physical tasks required by the post, including lifting, carrying, and pushing various equipment to undertake the duties of the post.
- The ability to carry out a range of administrative/clerical tasks, including record-keeping, ordering, and stock-taking.
