Job Opportunity: Locum Consultant in Paediatric Surgery

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Locum Consultant in Paediatric Surgery to join our team at The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This is a maternity locum position available for one year from December 2024.

The ideal candidate will have at least a year's experience in Diabetes and Endocrinology, with a special interest in SPIN. However, we would also consider candidates with broad general paediatric experience, with appropriate amendments to the job plan.

The CYP Diabetes team at our hospital is an award-winning team, caring for over 250 children with diabetes and achieving some of the best outcomes in the sector. The postholder will be well supported by the team, including our Diabetes lead consultant.

The paediatric department benefits from a strong consultant presence, including an onsite paediatrician 24/7.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver an endocrine clinic 2-3 times a month
  • General/hot clinic weekly
  • Support the weekly diabetes clinic alongside the diabetes team
  • Contribute to our advice and guidance for local GPs
  • Join the diabetes on-call rota (phone advice only, shared 1:5 with the team)

Person Specification:
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • GMC Registration with a license to practice, GMC Specialist Registration CCT Paediatrics, or within 6 months of CCT/CESR date
  • Broad training and experience in general paediatrics and neonates
  • Child protection experience and training at level 3
  • Evidence of training commitment to paediatric trainees or medical students
  • Excellent leadership ability
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-professional team and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Well-organised and highly motivated
  • Continually seeking to improve
  • Able to work extended hours and participate in the resident night on calls
  • MSc, PhD, MD
  • Experience in delivering neonatal care at consultant level
  • Additional special interest
  • NLS instructor
  • Simulation training
  • Time spent as training fellow, or educational qualification/recognised training
  • Research experience
