Job Summary

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a leading healthcare provider in South East London, renowned for its excellence in ophthalmic care and major trauma services. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Pharmacist to join our team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality clinical pharmacy services.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work closely with our specialist and principal pharmacists to lead the clinical pharmacy service for both surgical and ophthalmic services. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring safe and effective medication management
  • Collaborating with surgeons, ophthalmologists, and other healthcare professionals
  • Providing clinical expertise and support to patients and staff
  • Helping to manage pharmacy operations and develop innovative services in line with the NHS Clinical Pharmacy agenda

Leadership and Clinical Responsibilities

The Senior Pharmacist will be responsible for proposing and implementing policies, guidelines, and procedures to improve the pharmacy service. They will also participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, antibiotic ward rounds, and other meetings to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care.

Financial Management and People Management

The successful candidate will support the Principal Pharmacist in monitoring drug expenditure and providing accurate expenditure information. They will also be responsible for identifying areas of potential cost savings and implementing systems to realise savings and contain prescribing costs.

Research and Service Development

The Senior Pharmacist will participate in research and audit projects, publish and present results, and liaise with clinical trial nursing and pharmacy staff. They will also contribute to the development of ward and clinical pharmacy services to advance the safe, clinically effective, and cost-effective use of drugs.

General Responsibilities

The post holder will have a general duty of care for their own health, safety, and wellbeing, as well as that of work colleagues, visitors, and patients. They will also observe the rules, policies, procedures, and standards of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
