This apprenticeship follows the Embedded Electronic Systems Design and Development Engineer (Degree) Standard, leading to roles including designing and developing electronic circuits, devices, and systems.

As an Electronic Design Apprentice, you will spend your initial training at the Skills Academy, producing several electronic projects to develop your skills and knowledge in basic electronic theory, components, basic circuit design, circuit construction, and reporting.

You will then complete a variety of 6-month placements at AWE, attending college part-time to complete your HND.

On successful completion of your HND, you will spend your final 2 years on further placements around the business, working towards your Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (Degree phase).

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will attend several lectures to further increase your knowledge and understanding of electronic theory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electronic circuits, devices, and systems
  • Produce electronic projects to develop skills and knowledge in basic electronic theory, components, basic circuit design, circuit construction, and reporting
  • Complete 6-month placements at AWE and attend college part-time to complete your HND
  • Work towards your Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (Degree phase)
  • Attend lectures to increase knowledge and understanding of electronic theory

Requirements:

  • HNC (level 4) in Electronics
  • 5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including Maths and English
  • Aged 18 or over, as of 31st August 2025, due to security clearance requirements
  • British National

Location: Aldermaston (Reading / Basingstoke area)

Duration: 4 to 5 years (varies depending on personal performance)
