Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Specialist to join our team at SENDirect. This role is perfect for someone passionate about making a positive impact on students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

About the Role: As a Behaviour Support Specialist, you will be supporting students to engage in learning, develop their emotional regulation, and achieve their full potential in a nurturing and structured environment. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide targeted interventions, helping students overcome behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted support to students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of behaviour management strategies.
  • Work closely with teachers and other support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Offer one-to-one and group interventions to support students in regulating their behaviour and emotions.
  • Monitor and track student progress, ensuring regular communication with staff and parents.
  • Promote a safe and structured environment conducive to learning.
  • Support students in building positive relationships with peers and staff.
  • Liaise with external professionals, including counsellors and educational psychologists, when necessary.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs in a school or educational setting.
  • A strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and their practical application.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting students with complex needs.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certificate or training in SEMH support, are preferred.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
