Job Title: Assistant Buyer Brands

As an Assistant Buyer at Selfridges, you will play a crucial role in the Tech & Toys buying department, supporting the Buyer in sourcing brands and products. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the ordering process is efficient and compliant with Selfridges' processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Buyer in sourcing brands and products, ensuring thorough knowledge of the product and market.
  • Negotiate the best possible terms with suppliers, including margin, trade discounts, and markdown support.
  • Forge strong partnerships with brand partners, working closely with the Buyer and Head of Buying.
  • Work with the Buyer and Buying Manager to ensure that buying decisions are based on a sound commercial framework, driving sales and profit.
  • Monitor and review trade in season, making trading recommendations to the Buyer/Head of Buying as necessary.
  • Support the Buyers Admin with weekly trade packs, feeding back and presenting key findings to senior stakeholders.
  • Assist with range planning, working closely with the Merchandiser and Buyer/Head of Buying.
  • Work with the Merchandiser to analyze performance, making recommendations to the Buyer on whether to keep or discontinue products within the business.
  • Communicate effectively with retail operations teams, particularly regarding new season launches and product training.
  • Work closely with Marketing and PR to be aware of promotional opportunities during negotiations with suppliers.
  • Be responsible for re-ordering, working within the OTB structure, and ensuring decisions are communicated to the Administrator in a timely manner.
  • Carry out research into key trends and put together look books for the area.
  • Supervise the wider team and monitor workload, as necessary.
  • Work closely with VM to ensure product placement optimizes the look and performance of the department.
About You:
  • You will have a well-developed understanding of the product and market.
  • Buying experience is required.
  • You will be strategic and operational, with strong analytical skills and experience driving long-term and profitable commercial strategies.
  • You will be customer-focused, numerate, and have a highly commercial approach, as well as proficiency in Excel.
  • You will be collaborative, working flexibly as part of the wider Buying team, supporting projects and cross-functional meetings as necessary.
  • You will be organized with attention to detail and have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • You will have the ability to influence and be an example of our values, a trusted and respected colleague.
