Job Title: Laser Systems Engineer at Leonardo

Leonardo, a global leader in defence electronics, is seeking a skilled Laser Systems Engineer to join its elite optics and laser development team. As a pioneer in delivering critical systems for situational awareness, electronic warfare, and surveillance, Leonardo specializes in cutting-edge solutions for the defence sector.

The Radar and Advanced Targeting division in Edinburgh is renowned for its expertise in designing and producing compact and sophisticated lasers for emerging defence purposes. As a Laser Systems Engineer, you will be part of a specialized group responsible for creating innovative laser designs and exploring new technologies to seize business opportunities.

Your tasks will involve developing laser designs, utilizing computational modeling techniques to analyze solid-state lasers, and engaging in practical work at Leonardo's Laser Center of Excellence Laboratories. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to shape the advancement, trajectory, and successful delivery of the next generation of lasers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop compact and efficient solid-state laser systems
  • Explore new technologies and engineering capabilities to seize emerging business prospects
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to drive innovation and delivery
  • Develop and utilize computational modeling techniques to analyze solid-state lasers
  • Engage in practical work at Leonardo's Laser Center of Excellence Laboratories

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Physics)
  • Experience in laser product development or laser research environments
  • Advanced understanding of laser physics and solid-state laser engineering
  • Proficiency in designing, characterizing, and manufacturing lasers using appropriate tools
  • Strong analytical and modeling abilities, along with proficient laboratory skills
