The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to join our Education Team. We're flexible regarding the position level, prioritising the selection of a candidate with the appropriate experience and qualifications.

The role has a focus on operational work regarding all aspects of pupil and parent-related matters for our state, independent school, and FE College clients. This includes matters such as pupil safeguarding and welfare, Equality Act issues, admissions and exclusions, parent complaints, as well as supporting strategic governance advice to trustees in conjunction with our charity team.

This is a highly varied role, bringing experience in both contentious and non-contentious work, as well as an understanding of how regulatory, political, and commercial factors can affect legal issues for schools.

We're looking for someone who can develop their career within a highly regarded national firm, work with a high-calibre client base from the outset, and work closely with our nationally renowned Education team.

Key Responsibilities

General duties include:

  • Effectively manage an individual caseload (with supervision where appropriate)
  • Attend to clients of the Firm in the office or elsewhere if needed
  • Work in a collegiate and collaborative way within an immediate Team and wider Firm environment
  • Communicate promptly and effectively both internally to colleagues and externally to clients
  • Maintain your continuing professional development requirements and take an active interest in furthering your knowledge within the field of law
  • Carry out your work for both colleagues and clients to the highest possible standard, having regard to the Firm's standards, procedures, and core values
  • Regularly attend and be involved in preparation for Team meetings
  • Attend and be involved in preparation for marketing and business development events and activities

Ongoing learning is something that will continue in your career at Stone King; we aim to be leaders in our chosen fields, often providing workshops and seminars not only for our people but also for external clients on key areas of law.

Requirements

We're looking for an experienced Solicitor with experience of running their own caseload. Prior experience in providing legal advice to schools or clients in the education sector is essential. The ideal candidate will have the potential to market the firm and should have a strong interest in business development.

A strong commitment to career development and further learning is also essential. Previous experience handling own caseload and ability to work independently and as part of the team are also required.

Someone who performs well under pressure and can manage a sometimes intensive workload is essential. Excellent communication skills and ability to prioritise workload are also required. Attention to detail and IT literacy, including Office 2010, are also necessary.
