About Your New Role

At Weightmans, we're dedicated to delivering exceptional legal services to our clients. As a Solicitor in our Defendant Litigation team, you'll play a key role in helping us achieve this goal.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of non-litigated and litigated claims, including property damage, employers' liability, and public liability claims.
  • Liaise with various parties, such as other solicitors, insurers, experts, counsel, and clients.
  • Control the Case Manager diary and action lists.
  • Attend court hearings and meetings with counsel as appropriate.
  • Draft various documents, including letters and reports.
  • Satisfy standards of client care in accordance with guidelines and directions.
  • Complete Client MI procedures.
  • Achieve set financial and chargeable targets.
  • Comply with relevant rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Keep up to date with legal developments.
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans' values.
  • Assist the team with networking and attending client meetings.
  • Attend utilities/energy sector group meetings.

About You

  • For the NQ role, 0-4 YR PQE is essential.
  • Preferably experience of defending litigated claims, but candidates with Claimant litigation experience will also be considered.
  • Excellent knowledge of the CPR and litigation.
  • Knowledge of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and the Water Act 2014 (desirable but not essential).
  • An interest in working in the energy/utilities sector.
  • Excellent organisation skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative.
  • Flexible approach to work and a willingness to travel.
