Regional Radiopharmacy Production Manager Technical Team Lead
1 month ago
NHS Scotland is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff in various clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The shift pattern for this position is Monday to Friday, 6:15 am – 2:15 pm.
A vacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic clinical technologist, pharmaceutical scientist, pharmacy technician, or pharmacist to manage the pharmacy production service at the Radionuclide Dispensary within the former Western Infirmary site in compliance with pharmaceutical Good Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Practice standards and the site's Quality Management System.
The department provides individual radiopharmaceutical patient doses to Nuclear Medicine Departments throughout Health Boards in the West of Scotland each weekday. The main product used is Technetium-99m, so doses are made and dispatched daily within a very tight time frame.
The department holds an MHRA Specials licence and is the largest NHS radiopharmacy in the UK. The post holder will be named on the MS licence as responsible for production.
This is an exciting time to take up this post as a replacement facility is planned with construction due to start in October 2024. The post holder will be involved in finalising design, leading on some aspects of the project (e.g. work processes and validation) as well as managing the transition of production to the new facility.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate significant experience working in pharmacy aseptic services or radiopharmacy and have experience of staff management. Experience of innovation and project management is desirable.
Pharmacy Technician applicants: should hold a National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences, a relevant science degree, or equivalent experience and be registered as a pharmacy technician on the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Register.
Pharmacist applicants: should hold a Master's degree in Pharmacy and be registered as a pharmacist on the GPhC Register.
Clinical Technologist/Scientist applicants: should hold an honours degree in physical sciences or equivalent experience in radiopharmacy. Candidates should be Institute of Physics & Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) registered as a clinical technologist, or HCPC registered as a Clinical Scientist, or likely to achieve registration within 12 months of appointment.
NHS Scotland encourages applications from all sections of the community. We promote a culture of inclusion across the organisation and are proud of the diverse workforce we have.
NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024, but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part-time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.
Candidates should provide original and authentic responses to all questions within the application form. The use of artificial intelligence (AI), automated tools, or other third-party assistance to generate, draft, or significantly modify responses is strongly discouraged.
