We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to join our Data Centre Engineering Operations team at Amazon. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centres, ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment is functioning at peak efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Train and Support the Engineering Team: Provide guidance and support to the Engineering team in their role of providing electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operations.
- Implement and Execute Site-Specific Training: Develop and deliver training exercises for site-specific equipment, including stand-by diesel generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, and chillers.
- Oversee Day-to-Day Operations: Ensure the day-to-day operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centre sites.
- Operate Independently: Work independently with limited direct management, making decisions and taking actions as needed.
- Assist in Design and Build-Out: Assist in the design and build-out of new facilities and perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
- Escalation Point: Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the data centre region, working OT hours as needed to support site stability.
- Troubleshoot and Report: Troubleshoot and report facility and data server-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Create and Deploy Standard Practices: Develop and deploy standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
- Ensure Safety Procedures: Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendors and AWS staff.
- Respond to Emergency Calls: Respond to off-hour emergency calls related to data centres and assist with the investigation, mitigation, and recovery of issues.
You will join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we're looking for talented people who want to help.
Requirements- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering: A bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- Extensive Industry Experience: Extensive industry-related experience with in-depth knowledge of UPS, backup generator systems, and generic mechanical-room infrastructure.
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering: NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- BS7671 18th Edition: BS7671 18th Edition certification.
- High/Low Voltage Authorised Person (AP) Experience: Several years of experience as a High/Low Voltage Authorised Person (AP).
- Several Years of Experience in Operations and On-Call Support: Several years of experience in operations and on-call support for data centre facilities or mission-critical plants/production facilities.
- Fundamental Knowledge of Network Design and Layout: Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout, as well as low-voltage (copper/fibre) cabling.
