Job Description

The HATS Group is a leading provider of private healthcare services, excelling in patient-centric transportation solutions with an 'Outstanding' rating for Responsiveness from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC is an independent regulator responsible for the registration, inspection, and monitoring of healthcare providers.

The HATS Group operates a fleet of over 800 vehicles, supporting various public and private healthcare institutions, delivering over 2,000,000 passenger movements annually. We have an opportunity for a skilled Transportation Specialist to join our team.

**Job Purpose:**

A Transportation Specialist is responsible for driving a passenger-carrying vehicle (PCV) and providing excellent customer service and a safe and comfortable journey throughout the network of HATS buses.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients throughout the journey and handover.
  • Ensure that high visibility PPE is always worn in vehicle movement areas.
  • Observe speed limits within bus depots and school premises.

**Vehicle Maintenance and Safety:**

  • Conduct a safety walk-round check prior to commencing service.
  • Report any defects in the vehicle or equipment as soon as possible.
  • Complete the Vehicle Defect Card or enter the defect on the electronic ticket machine (depending on location).
  • Ensure the vehicle is clean and tidy before starting service.

**Customer Service and Communication:**

  • Provide a high standard of customer service.
  • Inform customers of road closures and diversions.
  • Behave in a friendly and professional manner towards customers and colleagues.
  • Recognize and assist with the additional needs of children and vulnerable adults, the elderly, infirm, or disabled.

**Driving and Safety:**

  • Drive the Company's vehicles in a safe, legal, and professional manner.
  • Drive to the set timetable, not running early or late, when it is safe to do so.
  • Keep up to date with road closures, diversions, or special events that may affect the service.

**Licensing and Compliance:**

  • Hold a valid driving licence and CPC licence at all times.
  • Ensure the licence has a D1 category with no restrictions and is in date and valid for the vehicle type.
  • Report any changes to the licence that may affect entitlement to drive.

**Company Policies and Procedures:**

  • Adhere to all HATS policies and procedures.
  • Report all safety, security, driving, and customer service incidents to the line manager as soon as possible.

**Work Environment:**

The jobholder will work in a predominately outdoor environment on vehicles that transport clients from and to various locations, and is required to work in a safe and efficient manner in all weather, traffic, and road conditions.

**Skills and Qualifications:**

  • Valid current UK (or acceptable other) drivers' licence.
  • No greater than 6 penalty points.
  • Good understanding of written and spoken English Language.
  • Proven eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Able to provide suitable references.
  • Able to prove their identity PCV/PSV driving licence.
  • Professional driving experience.
  • Has received 7 hours of DCPC training each year.
  • Basic secondary school education or equivalent.
  • Prepared to undertake training, such as NVQ as required.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle to a competent and safe standard.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills using English Language to ESOL entry level 2.
