Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Specialist to join our team at BOC. As an Employee Relations Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting the UK business in Industrial Relations and Employee Relations matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the strategic direction and business requirements of the business in IR and ER matters.
  • Drive the IR/ER agenda across business areas, identifying and evaluating current ER and IR policies and making recommendations for change.
  • Upskill managers to manage their own grievance/disciplinary/absence/performance and management processes, focusing on building capability rather than just managing the issue.
  • Use metrics to identify opportunities to improve performance in these areas.
  • Research market rate pay differentials and other payments for pay negotiations, and support negotiations between management and employees or trades unions concerning pay and conditions of employment.
  • Ensure the People strategy/approach is aligned across business units where necessary, and provides input on People strategies/initiatives specifically relating to the IR and ER Agenda.
  • Lead and manage IR and ER related projects as appropriate.
  • Travel up to 30% of the time to see our sites and offices.

Requirements

  • Understanding of UK Employment Law, with flexibility of thought and approach, and the ability to adapt and adjust legal and HR best practice appropriately to the working environment.
  • Previous experience in similar industry in a unionised environment.
  • Experience of handling sensitive personal and complex data, with emotional resilience, confidence, discretion, and respect for confidentiality.
  • Negotiation and coaching skills, including the ability to coach and develop managers with sound influencing skills, able to motivate others.
  • High levels of emotional intelligence, understanding what motivates others and sufficient self-awareness to realise the impact of own behaviour on others.
  • Flexibility and responsiveness, able to work effectively with competing and changing demands and cope with ambiguity.
