Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Special Care Dental Nurse to join our specialist led, multidisciplinary team at Plymouth Community Dental Services, part of Livewell Southwest. As a Special Care Dental Nurse, you will work closely with our special care dentists to provide high-quality patient care to patients with special needs, mostly undergoing treatment under conscious sedation.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years' experience in dental nursing, with a strong background in sedation nursing and a NEBDN qualification in conscious sedation. You will be responsible for monitoring sedated patients during treatment and recovery, recognising and assisting with medical emergencies, and discharging patients with the dentist's agreement. You will also be required to carry out clinical and administrative work without direct supervision, promoting best practice and a high level of patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with special care dentists to provide high-quality patient care to patients with special needs
  • Monitor sedated patients during treatment and recovery
  • Recognise and assist with medical emergencies
  • Discharge patients with the dentist's agreement
  • Carry out clinical and administrative work without direct supervision
  • Promote best practice and a high level of patient care
Requirements
  • NEBDN qualification in conscious sedation
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in dental nursing
  • Strong background in sedation nursing
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good keyboard and ICT skills
  • Fluent in spoken and written English language
