About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Elderly Medicine Consultant to join our team at The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. As a key member of our department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our services.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Ward Rounds and MDT Meetings: You will be responsible for conducting ward rounds and attending dedicated multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  2. Specialist Opinion: You will provide specialist opinion and guidance to patients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes.
  3. Outpatient and Virtual Clinics: You will participate in outpatient and virtual clinics, as well as home visits, to provide timely and effective care to patients.
  4. Teaching and Training: You will contribute to the teaching and training of junior doctors, medical students, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the development of our team.
  5. Audit and Quality Improvement: You will be responsible for regular audit, data collection, and quality improvement work to ensure ongoing improvements in the care of frail older people.
  6. Ward Management: You will maintain an overview of all ward patients and actively participate in and facilitate discharges on the ward.
  7. Junior Doctor Supervision: You will support and supervise junior doctors on the ward to ensure their development and well-being.
  8. Liaison with ANPs: You will liaise with Same Day Emergency Care Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) as necessary to ensure seamless patient care.
  9. Electronic and Verbal Handover: You will contribute to the electronic and verbal handover of patients to ensure continuity of care.
Specialty Interests

This post is associated with a number of different specialty interests, including Community, Orthogeriatrics, and acute frailty. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and expertise in these areas and contribute to the development of our services.

Working Arrangements
  1. Scheduled Evening Duties: You will work scheduled evening duties from 5pm to 8pm, Monday to Friday, seeing older patients (over 80 years or over 65 years from care homes or patients with frailty) admitted via the Acute Care of the Elderly Unit.
  2. On-Call Weekends: You will participate in on-call weekends, currently 3:18 (1:6), seeing approximately 20-25 patients with the support of the registrar.
  3. On-Call Duties: You will undertake on-call duties on a 1:18 basis, with the on-call element of a 10PA job plan assessed as 1.5PA.
Supporting Professional Activities

Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) are in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or Duty Commitment (DCC) time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service.
