Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Vehicle Policy Expert to join our team at Transport for London. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and developing taxi, private hire, and pedicab vehicle licensing policies and standards in London.

The ideal candidate will have experience within the automotive industry of vehicle repair/fleet operations, memberships of relevant industry and professional bodies, and experience in a regulated environment. They will also possess excellent written communication skills, planning and organising abilities, and an acceptable level of maths.

This is a permanent, full-time position with opportunities for part-time work available. We offer a final salary pension scheme, free travel on the TfL network, and other benefits such as 30 days annual leave plus public and bank holidays.

Salary: £49,500 - £54,000

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and produce proposals for ongoing continuous improvement of taxi, private hire, and pedicab vehicle licensing requirements and standards.
  • Undertake research into licensing standards, policies, and best practice, and use this information to further develop and inform decision making and change.
  • Monitor the development of and changes to relevant vehicle regulations, legislation, and guidance, and lead on the development and implementation of any required changes.
  • Ensure that documented vehicle policies, inspection manual, and other vehicle-related documents are maintained, up to date, and publicly available.
  • Assist in the development of internal and customer-facing policies and processes.
  • Work with relevant teams to ensure that any proposals in relation to vehicle policy are measured, balanced, and communicated with stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the regulatory framework promotes equalities and reflects the diversity of London's communities.
  • Write reports, briefings, correspondence, and presentations that set out the case for changes to standards and policies.
