The London office of Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, a leading intellectual property law firm, seeks a skilled Patent Legal Assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and complete patent office filings, ensuring compliance with patent filing requirements and regulations.
  • Conduct research to determine requirements for filings when needed, utilizing patent office electronic filing resources and websites effectively.
  • Liaise with clients and patent office personnel, following up with attorneys and taking appropriate action as necessary.
  • Act as a liaison between attorneys, clients, staff, and patent offices to coordinate European and foreign patent filings, including formalities such as reporting, official correspondence, and reporting issued patents.
  • Respond effectively to communications from clients, foreign counsel, attorneys, and patent office personnel.
  • Maintain accurate case data to review and clear the docket daily, ensuring correctness of entries and completeness of information.
  • Perform varied administrative tasks, as needed, including processing client-billable and firm invoices.
  • Utilize knowledge of clients' needs to input data and generate reports for clients and attorneys as requested.
  • Review the docket communications and provide updates daily to keep attorneys and others apprised of and prepared for deadlines.
  • Maintain familiarity with attorney workloads, schedule, and projects to effectively manage, organize, and prioritize tasks.
  • Interact effectively with US-based departments as required to support them, the firm, and attorneys.
  • Process incoming correspondence in a timely manner and maintain client files (both electronic and paper) to a high standard.
  • Draft correspondence and other documents to clients and other parties, as needed.
  • Assist in defining and implementing office workflows, participate in Firm and office pilot projects, as relevant.
