About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Homelessness Prevention Specialist to join our Modern Slavery Response Team at Hestia Charity. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals and contribute to our mission of empowering people to rebuild their lives and achieve independence.

The successful candidate will provide specialist support and guidance to advocates working with service users who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, leveraging extensive knowledge of housing legislation to ensure excellent quality services and strong contractual compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead specialist role in supporting Service Users experiencing homelessness and destitution, offering tailored advice on emergency housing support and interventions.
  • Creatively highlight areas of best practice across the service to prevent and solve homelessness for service users.
  • Provide expert support to advocates dealing with complex housing cases.
  • Review housing-related applications and referrals, offering case-by-case advice and support.
  • Hold clinics during office hours to advise on housing issues and homelessness prevention.
  • Share expertise on housing and homelessness legislation, including private rented housing, local authority housing, and homelessness.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes to the Homelessness Code of Guidance and safehouse guidelines.
  • Oversight of service users in alternative accommodation due to homelessness.
  • Support advocates on difficult housing cases and share best practice.
Requirements

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Knowledge and experience of working with housing and homelessness legislation.
  • Experience in advocacy and mediation around complex housing issues.
  • Knowledge and experience of welfare benefits legislation and Health and Safety.
  • Able to create interventions with service users to address homelessness causes.
  • Solution-focused and proactive in achieving high-quality client work and results.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage complex work projects.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems, including databases.
  • Ability to record accurate data, case notes, plans, and outcomes.
