Machine Shop Production Manager

Birmingham-based company seeks a seasoned Machine Shop Production Manager to oversee daily operations and drive efficiency in our CNC machine shop. Reporting to the Managing Director, this role requires a strong background in CNC machine shop environments, excellent production management skills, and a keen ability to identify areas for improvement and develop training plans.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement manufacturing strategies to align the machine shop with business objectives.
  2. Plan and manage daily production to meet order book and future project requirements.
  3. Conduct performance appraisals, identify training needs, and work with the Production Manager to develop a skilled and motivated team.
  4. Collaborate with designers and customers to provide input on new developments and existing products.
  5. Program and operate CNC machines as required.
  6. Maintain clear communication with customers and stakeholders at all levels.
  7. Ensure accurate stock management and booking of materials to specific jobs.
  8. Collaborate with other manufacturing teams to maintain product quality and meet standards.
  9. Attend and contribute to monthly management meetings.
  10. Lead team planning sessions and manage production workload.
  11. Ensure production documentation is logged and updated.
  12. Implement lean manufacturing practices to enhance efficiency.
  13. Monitor daily performance targets, including quality and productivity metrics.
  14. Ensure compliance with safety, process, and quality assurance standards.
Requirements:
  1. Proven experience managing or supervising in a CNC machine shop environment.
  2. Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan ahead and work systematically.
  3. Adaptable to change and able to manage pressure effectively.
  4. Focused on delivering high-quality products that meet customer satisfaction and standards.
  5. Experience with CADCAM software and CNC machine operations.
Benefits:
  1. £65,000 per annum + benefits
  2. Company pension with 3% employer contributions.
  3. 25 days annual leave + statutory holidays.
  4. Working hours: Monday-Thursday 7 am to 4 pm, Friday 7 am to 12 pm.
