Legal Affairs Specialist

At Warner Music Group, we're a global collective of music makers and music lovers, tech innovators and inspired entrepreneurs, game-changing creatives and passionate team members. Here, we know that each talent makes our collective bolder and brighter. We are guided by four core principles that underpin everything we do across all our diverse businesses:

  • Music is Everything: Music is our passion, and we can never get enough. Tastes, trends, and tech will change, but great artists and songwriters will always be our driving force.
  • Global Growth, Local Expertise: Music is a global language. Through communication and collaboration, our success can come from anywhere and translate everywhere.
  • Innovation and Insight: Pushing the boundaries requires the best information and the boldest imagination.
  • Empowered by People: Like the artists we serve and the music they make, our differences make us stronger. This is a place where every talent can belong and build a career.

We remain committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We know it fosters a culture where you can truly belong, contribute, and grow. We encourage applications from people of any age, gender identity, sex or sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion or belief, disability, and any other protected characteristic or identity.

Consider a career at WMG and get the best of both worlds – an innovative global music company that retains the creative spirit of a nimble independent.

A little bit about our team:

Warner Classics is one of the largest and most prestigious Classical Music Labels in the world. Our current roster includes some of the most talented artists in the business, both established and emerging, with our highly respected international A&R team continuing to search out and sign exciting new artists from around the world, all underpinned with one of the most extensive catalogues of classical repertoire.

Your role:

This is a key role within the Warner Classics Business Affairs team, based in our London office, reporting to the Director Legal & Business Affairs, Classics. You will be responsible for negotiating and drafting key agreements with artists and 3rd parties and for the administration of contracts across management teams in the UK, Paris & Germany and affiliate and licensee companies worldwide for frontline and catalogue releases on our various label identities.

We're looking for a confident self-starter, able to negotiate and draft basic contracts and to efficiently run associated contract administration in a busy legal environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Negotiate and draft agreements to include flat fee and royalty-based artist and 3rd party agreements, waiver agreements for artists signed exclusively to Warner, licence agreements for new and existing recordings and agreements to acquire rights in film, photo and artwork assets.
  • Review contracts to identify contractual commitments and restrictions, enter data into our Rights Administration Database and respond to rights queries from Warner colleagues.
  • Work with teams worldwide to clear repertoire for use in campaigns, compilations, and sync use in film/TV/ad campaigns.

About you:

  • A Law or GDL Graduate, minimum 2:1 degree, LPC qualified.
  • Have studied IP law, particularly copyright, with experience of drafting, reviewing and amending commercial contracts and familiar with music contracts.
  • A self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and co-operatively in a team orientated environment, building and maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Common sense, the courage to ask for help when uncertain, and the capacity to think creatively are strengths we value.
  • As an international company, with key management based in Paris, and some non-English historical contracts, language skills would be an asset, particularly French and also German.

About us:

As the home to Asylum, Atlantic, East West, Elektra, FFRR, Fueled by Ramen, Nonesuch, Parlophone, Rhino, Roadrunner, Sire, Warner Records, Warner Classics, and several other of the world's premier recording labels, Warner Music Group champions emerging artists and global superstars alike. And our renowned publishing company, Warner Chappell Music, represents genre-spanning songwriters and producers through a catalogue of more than one million copyrights worldwide. Warner Music Group is also home to ADA, which supports the independent community, as well as artist services division WMX. In addition, WMG counts film and television storytelling powerhouse Warner Music Entertainment among its many brands.

Together, we are Warner Music Group: Music With Vision & Voice.
