About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our busy and dynamic team as a Senior Technical Communications Engineer, specializing in secure voice systems. As part of our IT and Telecoms department, you will be working at the heart of Government, contributing to the development and maintenance of cutting-edge communication services.

As a Senior Technical Communications Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure voice systems, ensuring they meet the highest standards of security and efficiency. You will work closely with national and international partners, developing and maintaining systems, testing schedules, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Designing and implementing secure voice systems, including IP phone systems and video conferencing technologies.
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting existing systems, ensuring seamless operation and minimal downtime.
  • Providing technical expertise and advice to colleagues, stakeholders, and suppliers, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Developing and maintaining technical documentation, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of system configurations and operations.
  • Working collaboratively with the Head of Technical Communications to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for enhancing communication services.
Requirements:
  • A high-level technical expertise in electrical engineering, communications, or a related field, preferably with degree-level qualifications or equivalent experience and training.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of IP phone systems, video conferencing technologies, WAN/LAN infrastructure, and physical security measures.
  • Strong customer-facing skills, including senior stakeholder management and effective communication.
  • Ability to work flexibly, sometimes requiring travel or working at weekends or overnight.
  • Willingsness to be on-call to provide support to a 24/7 operation.
