Job Description

The Bank of England is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join its Technical Capabilities Team within the RegTech, Data and Innovation Division (RDID). As a key member of the team, you will play a crucial role in developing advanced analytics and deploying data science and artificial intelligence/machine learning techniques to improve internal business functions related to financial supervision and regulation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deploy advanced analytics and data science solutions to improve business functions
  • Collaborate with end-users to understand their needs and ensure tools meet those needs
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in data science and share knowledge with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Contribute to the growth, awareness, and uptake of RegTech and SupTech tools and technologies across banking and insurance supervision
  • Attend technical events with industry stakeholders and other central banks/regulators

Requirements:

  • Experience in a role using programming languages (Python/R) to manipulate data and draw insights from large quantitative and qualitative data sets
  • Experience visualising/presenting data for stakeholders using Tableau or similar data visualisation tools
  • Good analytical skills and ability to synthesise key messages from data, both in writing and verbally
  • Proactive attitude and drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques
  • Ability to organise own workload independently or as part of a team to meet business requirements on time
  • Good inter-personal skills and experience of working in a team, including building effective stakeholder relationships

Desirable Skills:

  • Advanced skills in data modelling, ETL, process design, and performance optimisation
  • Practical experience with classical NLP techniques and text pre-processing
  • Practical experience building solutions from transformers-based models for NLP problems
  • Experience with Python NLP and language modelling libraries
  • Hands-on experience with large foundation models and related frameworks
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure data scientist stack
  • Interest in financial markets and regulation and keenness to learn about financial concepts and metrics
