Production Operations Manager

Welcome to Hovis, a leading bakery company with over 130 years of experience. We produce a wide range of bread and bakery products, delivering around 1.3 million loaves every day across the UK and Ireland.
We have a team of 2,800 people working in 8 bakeries, 1 flour mill, and 2 regional distribution centres. Our success is built on the hard work and expertise of our people, who work in various departments, including baking, manufacturing, logistics, engineering, and central functions.
We are looking for an experienced Production Front Line Manager to join our Bradford Bakery production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and developing all shift-based production activities, driving improvements in safety, cost, quality, and timescales.
Key responsibilities include:
- Action and support the team to exceed all defined KPIs for the shift requirements of quality, capacity, waste reduction, yield, and labour.
- Ensure safety is paramount, leading by example to deliver a zero-accident culture.
- Adhere to work instructions, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Train and support team members to be multi-skilled and competent in all tasks.
- Lead from the front in a flexible and committed manner.
- Ensure quality-focused and driven to achieve high standards of food safety, hygiene, and compliance.
- Participate in customer visits, audits, and technical meetings as required.
- Understand and adhere to HACCP principles.
- Promote high standards of GMP at all times.
- Develop a proactive approach to 'Clean As You Go' within the workplace.
- Enhance controls, processes, and systems where possible.
- Deliver and sustain cost control and productivity elements of the Hovis PMF.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Relevant industry experience.
- Leadership and people management skills, with experience of managing teams in an FMCG manufacturing environment.
- An advanced food hygiene qualification.
- Plant baking qualifications.
- IOSH.
- Lean/Six Sigma experience.
- Experience of working effectively in a Trade Union environment.
- Demonstrated experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably baking.
- People management experience.
- Knowledge of basic baking techniques.
Hours of work are 4 on 4 off, with 2 days shifts and 2 night shifts working 6am until 6pm.
