Job Title: Quantity Surveyor

Location: Leeds

Thorn Baker Construction is seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor to join their team. As a leading civil engineering contractor, they work on a wide range of projects, from sustainable remediation techniques to bulk earthworks and infrastructure development.

Your Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in establishing client requirements and undertake feasibility studies to ensure proposals meet their needs
  2. Prepare and analyze project costings for tenders, including materials, quantities, labor, and time
  3. Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or client
  4. Negotiate contracts and work schedules
  5. Allocate work to subcontractors and oversee their work at all stages of the construction
  6. Perform risk, value management, and cost control during construction
  7. Undertake cost analysis for repair and maintenance project work
  8. Advise on procurement strategy
  9. Identify, analyze, and develop responses to commercial risks
  10. Provide advice on contractual claims and disputes
  11. Analyze outcomes and write detailed progress reports
  12. Value completed work, oversee bills, and arrange payments
  13. Maintain awareness of different building contracts in current use
  14. Understand the implications of health and safety regulations

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the civil engineering sector or construction industry
  • Competent in use of MS Excel and MS Word
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
