Mechanical Design Specialist for Nuclear Infrastructure

Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom EDF Full time

EDF EPR Engineering UK is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project.

The Technical Directorate will oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E's integrated teams.

As a Mechanical Design Specialist, you will play a crucial role in finalising the design phase of the Hinkley Point C project. In the piping sector, you will be responsible for overseeing the detailed design of an extensive piping network, stretching over 100 kilometres, which is integral to the Nuclear Island of the HPC EPR project.

You will ensure the integrity of pipe network designs and supporting structures by performing detailed piping calculations and evaluating HVAC and electrical supports under various load scenarios, including thermal expansion and seismic activity.

Additionally, you will utilise element analysis software and contribute to the development of specialised tools.

This role requires exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, along with a deep understanding of mechanical concepts like modal and static analysis.

You will have expertise in performing mechanical simulations using finite element methods and proficiency in Python programming for developing computational tools.

We are looking for someone with innovative problem-solving skills, a commitment to continuous learning, and a drive to stay current with the latest technological advancements in the field.

In terms of compensation, this role offers a salary range from £35,000 to £39,000 per annum, alongside a market-leading pension scheme and a range of benefits, including enhanced parental leave, electric vehicle leasing, health insurance, product discounts, critical illness insurance, technology vouchers, gym membership, and season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we promote flexibility and recognise that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we support collaboration, connection, and comfort.

Our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated. We do right by each other and everyone's welcome. We champion equity, diversity, and inclusion, and we'd like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability, and supporting social mobility.

We're a disability confident employer and we'll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.
