Principal Mechanical Engineer - Water Utilities
Hybrid Work Environment
Are you ready to join a dynamic M&E team? Do you excel in collaboration across UK and international projects? If you possess a strong background in Mechanical Infrastructure Design, this opportunity may be the next step in your professional journey.
Innovate for a Sustainable Future
We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer with expertise in Water Utilities to enhance our mechanical capabilities on Infrastructure projects. Your main responsibility will be to execute engineering tasks related to the design of components such as water supply and wastewater systems, along with non-infrastructure apparatus. This encompasses pressurized mains, pumping stations, treatment facilities, and other pertinent equipment. Your focus will be on the design sector, which, while primarily based in the UK, will involve daily interactions with colleagues from our global offices. Additionally, there may be chances to expand your role into other areas within the MEP discipline or engage in client-side or site-based functions across various major infrastructure projects.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to the design of projects for a diverse client base
- Coordinating design tasks and deliverables with the broader MEP team
- Ensuring technical quality and assurance of designs, utilizing relevant software
- Adhering to both local and international standards
- Managing multi-disciplinary project components
- Mentoring junior engineers in design practices
- Fostering relationships with clients and other stakeholders
Your Expertise. Our Team. Together We Shape the Future. Success in this role requires a collaborative spirit, whether working with colleagues, partners, or clients. Building strong relationships is achieved through respect and reliability. You should also be open to new ideas and continuous improvement.
To thrive in this position, you will need:
- A degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
- Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent)
- Relevant experience in mechanical systems design
- The capability to deliver technically sound solutions independently and as a discipline lead
- A comprehensive understanding of water-based systems, including pressurized water supply mains, pumping stations, and treatment facilities
- Experience in hydraulic modeling of pipe networks, including steady-state and transient analysis
- Knowledge of pipe support and stress calculations
- Familiarity with other mechanical equipment, such as lifting devices and actuated hydraulic gates, is advantageous
- Proficiency in 3D and BIM design
- Awareness of relevant Water Industry Specifications (WIMES)
- Experience applying CDM regulations to design tasks
- Experience in design and build projects, including site representation, is beneficial
