About the Role


We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our team as a Submarine Control Systems Expert.



Key Responsibilities



  • Evaluate and improve the design of control systems for submarines, ensuring high integrity and reliability.
  • Lead technical work packages, managing design and deliverable evidence to meet customer needs.
  • Collaborate with system owners, suppliers, and customers to support manufacture and delivery of control equipment.
  • Develop and validate requirements, integrating electronic, mechanical, and software sub-systems into complex control systems.
  • Compile technical documentation, including system design, functional design, validation, verification, test, qualification, and manufacturing contracts.
  • Verify that customer needs are satisfied through qualification and test activities, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of submarine control systems.
  • Manage and lead technical teams, providing guidance and coaching to ensure high-quality results.


Requirements



  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant STEM subject (Engineering/Physics/Maths/Science) or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience with leading and coaching others, with a strong track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Familiarity with Defence Standards and Industry standards, such as IEC 61508/61511, ARP 4754, DO-178C/DO-254.
  • Awareness of the system engineering lifecycle and ability to apply good systems engineering practices to your work.
  • Chartered engineer or working towards this level.
