Job Title: Assistant Planning Adviser

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Planning Adviser to join our team in the Midlands and East Region. As a key member of our consultancy, you will provide professional planning advice and support to colleagues and National Trust places throughout the region.

About the Role

You will work on a wide range of planning issues, including major infrastructure projects, the sensitive development of historic buildings, and the conservation of natural habitats. You will also engage with local planning authorities, statutory consultees, and other stakeholders to ensure that our planning matters are well represented.

As a champion of inclusion, you will help create an inclusive culture where everyone feels welcome. You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team of experts to help make things happen and support the Trust's mission to protect and preserve the UK's best-loved places.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide professional planning advice and support to colleagues and National Trust places throughout the region.
  • Work on a wide range of planning issues, including major infrastructure projects, the sensitive development of historic buildings, and the conservation of natural habitats.
  • Engage with local planning authorities, statutory consultees, and other stakeholders to ensure that our planning matters are well represented.
  • Monitor and respond to external planning applications and consultations on local and neighbourhood plans.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement planning strategies that support the Trust's mission.

Requirements
  • Qualified planner with a Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)-accredited degree or working towards chartered RTPI membership.
  • Experience in analysing, resolving, and preparing positions and advice on planning issues.
  • Effective communicator with good working relationships and a high-quality service to colleagues.
  • Good organisational skills and able to work at pace and keep to time.
  • Champion of inclusion and able to support everyone to feel welcome.
