Job Summary

This is a challenging opportunity to lead and develop a specialized nutrition and dietetic service for patients receiving parenteral nutrition at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. The ideal candidate will have extensive clinical experience in GI surgery and intestinal failure, as well as advanced knowledge of parenteral nutrition.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced dietitian to join our team as a specialist parenteral nutrition expert. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a specialist dietitian outpatient service for all home PN patients, providing full nutritional assessment and specialist advice. They will also attend MDT meetings and provide dietetic advice to patients, nursing, and medical staff within this setting.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  1. To work autonomously to provide highly complex advice to IF patients on wards at UHP, including the interpretation of biochemical, haematological, faecal and anthropometric measurements.
  2. To set up and lead a specialist dietitian/CNS outpatient service for all Home PN patients, providing full nutritional assessment and specialist advice.
  3. To review patients in existing weekly nutrition support/intestinal failure (IF) clinic alongside gastroenterologists and specialist nurses.
  4. To attend MDT meetings and provide Dietetic advice to patients, nursing, and medical staff within this setting.
  5. To act as a clinical resource, providing specialist knowledge to members of the dietetic department on PN management.
  6. To conduct nutritional assessments and to implement individualised, evidence-based treatment plans, including the calculation of nutritional requirements and interpretation of medical information.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Extensive clinical practice post-registration experience in a wide range of clinical areas, particularly GI surgery and intestinal failure.
  • Advanced proven knowledge and demonstrable experience of Parenteral Nutrition.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate with all levels of healthcare personnel as well as patients and their carers.

Salary: £40,000 - £60,000 per annum, depending on experience.
