Job Summary

Join a dynamic team of speech and language therapists at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, where you will have the opportunity to work with clients with progressive and acquired neurological needs.

As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating language, communication, and swallow problems in adults with acquired disorders and progressive neurological conditions.

You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality care and support to clients and their families.

Main Duties

Assess and diagnose language, communication, and swallow problems in adults with acquired disorders and progressive neurological conditions.

Develop and implement treatment plans to address these problems, working closely with the multidisciplinary team.

Provide education and support to clients and their families to promote independence and self-management.

Person Specification

Essential

Degree or graduate diploma in Speech and Language Therapy.

Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as a speech and language therapist.

Certificated postgraduate courses or equivalent in-house training in clinical specialty areas.

Desirable

Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.

Membership of an RCSLT Clinical Excellence Network (CEN).

Experience

Postgraduate work experience as an SLT with an adult acquired population within the acute hospital setting.

Experience of working in an MDT.

Practised as an SLT at Band 5 or above.

Completed RCSLT NQP competencies.

RCSLT Dysphagia Competent.

Knowledge and experience of a range of approaches for the management of speech/swallowing/language and cognitive communication deficits.

Experience of utilising and referring patients for instrumental swallow assessment.

Good understanding of relevant RCSLT and wider clinical guidelines relevant to rotations.

Presenting to groups.

Supervision of B5 SLTs, assistants, and/or students.

Active participation in an audit or project work.

Evidence of CPD.
