Job Description: We are seeking an experienced Instrument Scientist to join our team at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing the VESPA spectrometer, which will be integrated into the ESS instrument suite.

Job Objectives:
• Design and develop the VESPA spectrometer using ray-tracing simulations
• Collaborate with international teams on experiments covering a wide range of scientific research disciplines
• Conduct your own research program on instruments at ISIS and other neutron sources

Responsibilities:
• Work closely with the VESPA lead scientist on the design of the VESPA spectrometer
• Support and collaborate with users to run inelastic neutron scattering experiments
• Conduct research programs on instruments at ISIS and other neutron sources

Requirements:
• PhD level in physics, chemistry, materials science, or similar discipline
• Experience of design in scientific instrumentation or sample environment
• Demonstrable potential or proven ability to pursue an independent research program
• Computational skills, including a working knowledge of coding languages

Salary and Benefits:
• Competitive salary range of £41,344 - £56,366 per annum, dependent on skills and experience
