Transport Operations Manager

At Gist, we are seeking a highly skilled Transport Operations Manager to join our team in Carlisle. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day transport operations at the site, ensuring the operation is running smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee a team of drivers to drive performance KPIs and have a clear operational plan to reduce cost, improve service, and increase efficiency.
- Manage the fleet, maintenance, and associated administration, as well as investigate any service or operational failures to understand and prevent in the future.
- Maintain a safe and friendly working environment for all employees, agency, and subcontractors.
- Own the recruitment, induction, absence management, well-being meetings, and 121s process, including disciplinaries, grievances, and investigations within the transport department.
- Ensure effective communication within the transport teams through meetings and briefings.
- Responsible for delivery of operational KPIs, maintaining and improving performance levels to maximise efficiency of operation in line with account KPIs.
Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge and hands-on experience of a transport function within the FMCG Distribution Industry.
- A background operating at a management level is a must.
- Transport CPC – desirable.
- A passion for encouraging teamwork, focusing on creating an innovative culture where all employees can voice their suggestions and ideas.
- Excellent team management skills for developing your team.
- An analytical mindset.
- Flexibility to cover a variety of shift patterns in the future.
- You'll come into contact with Trade Unions (previous experience with this would be beneficial).
