Vacancy Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Flooding Engineer to join our team in East Lothian Council's Roads Services department. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality services in the Structures and Flooding team, ensuring the efficient and effective design, management, and supervision of drainage and flood protection schemes across the county.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009 for East Lothian Council, working closely with The Scottish Government, SEPA, Scottish Water, and other relevant bodies.
- Lead on Council flooding and coastal projects, engaging and managing consultants to deliver them.
- Project manage flood protection and drainage schemes, directing in-house teams and external consultants/contractors in investigation, feasibility, option preparation, contract administration, and site supervision.
- Provide support to the wider team responsible for ELC road structure assets (bridges and culverts).
Requirements
- Knowledge and awareness of flood protection methods and design procedures.
- Watercourse, reservoir, and coastal defence inspection and maintenance experience.
- Confident verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to establish good working relationships.
- IT proficiency, with daily use of digital technology.
Working Environment
The successful candidate will work within an office environment and will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within East Lothian. Flexibility to meet the needs and demands of the service is essential.
