Junior Commissioning Engineer

£35,000 - £45,000 + Overtime & Car Allowance

Full Time, Permanent (Flexitime)

This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on the challenge of working with automation, electro/mechanical, and data acquisition systems in turnkey projects for the automotive test industry. No two projects are the same, offering the opportunity to deliver solutions in cutting-edge automotive and industrial environments.

We are open to a range of experience levels, from graduates to seasoned professionals, with appropriate training provided.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Inspect and fault-find on bespoke, one-off electrical system installations on-site.
  2. Calibrate and set up electronic data acquisition, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  3. Set up and perform PID tuning of standard automotive control loops.
  4. Configure automation software to suit specific channels and interface components.
  5. Create/modify system configurations and software to achieve a range of functionalities.
  6. Integrate third-party hardware such as inverter drives, fuel systems, safety systems, and analyzers into test cells and facilities.
  7. Develop automation sequences using standard automation software tools.
  8. Follow commissioning steps and checks to ensure system functionality.
  9. Collaborate with commissioning and site managers to produce time schedules.
  10. Provide initial customer training on system operation.
Requirements:
  1. Solid electrical understanding, including the ability to follow drawings and diagnose issues.
  2. Ideally possesses a degree in engineering or a relevant electrical qualification.
  3. Basic knowledge of programming/software development, ideally in C# or Visual Basic, with an eagerness to develop industrial programming skills.
  4. Strong fault-finding skills with the ability to apply engineering principles to real-life problems.
  5. Understanding of the automotive industry (engines, battery tech, powertrains, etc.).
  6. Willingness to work away from home during the working week, with occasional overseas trips (up to 28 days).
  7. Capable of spending 75-100 nights away per year; 80% site-based role, with 2-3 overseas trips per year (2-4 weeks each).
  8. Proficient in using Microsoft Office and computers.
  9. Holds a full UK driving license, with the ability to secure business insurance.
