About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Health and Safety Manager to join our team at LANXESS UK. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and environmental compliance of our operations.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Compliance Management: Maintain all relevant permits, licenses, and certifications, including variations, renewals, and modifications.
  • Environmental Considerations: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including the IPPC permit, corporate directives, and best practices.
  • Communication and Coordination: Liaise with regulatory bodies, such as the HSE and EA, to ensure compliance and represent the company's interests.
  • Initiatives and Support: Develop and implement best practices in EHSS management, and provide support to initiatives that promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Occupational Health and Safety: Manage the occupational health and safety program, including industrial hygiene, medical surveillance, first aid, and PPE.
Management Systems:
  • Emergency Response Plan: Develop and maintain an emergency response plan, including hazard communication and emergency procedures.
  • Corrective Action Tracking: Maintain a corrective action tracking system to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • ISO Certification: Maintain ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 9001:2015 certification for our sites, and ensure compliance with future standards as required.
Training and Development:
  • Training Matrix: Develop and maintain a training matrix to ensure that all employees receive necessary training and development opportunities.
  • Emergency Response Training: Provide training to the Emergency Response Organization and ensure that all employees are aware of their roles and responsibilities in emergency situations.
  • Major Emergency Team: Participate in the Major Emergency Team for our Trafford Park site.
Planning and Budgeting:
  • EHSS Capital Expenditure: Participate in the planning, implementation, and review of EHSS capital expenditure projects to ensure compliance and optimize performance.
  • EHSS Budgeting: Manage the EHSS budgets for our sites, ensuring that all expenses are properly accounted for and that budget targets are met.
Reporting and Auditing:
  • Key Performance Indicators: Report on key performance indicators for health, safety, and environment, including incident rates, near misses, and compliance metrics.
  • Incident Reporting: Investigate and track all EHSS incidents, releases, and near misses, and share learning with other sites.
  • Auditing and Inspection: Coordinate internal audits to ensure compliance with management systems, and conduct or coordinate all necessary EHSS inspections and observations.
About You

We are looking for a highly experienced and qualified Health and Safety Manager who can lead our EHSS team and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. You will have a strong background in health and safety management, with experience in chemical manufacturing at an Upper Tier COMAH facility.

  • Qualifications: Minimum qualification of NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent.
  • Professional Membership: Chartered member of IOSH (MIOSH) or working towards MIOSH or equivalent.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Strong managerial, technical, interpersonal, and communication skills, with knowledge of quality management systems, principles, and auditing.
  • Business Process Orientation: Ability to follow and examine business processes for improvements and align with customer needs.
  • Fact-Based Analysis: Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Influencing Others: Ability to influence others and drive change.
